Admissions - Grammar Schools

Admission to all five of the King Edward VI Grammar Schools is based entirely on merit and is free. There are no fees. There is no discrimination on religious, racial, or social grounds. There are no reserved places for pupils from junior schools, state or private. Only a sufficient mark in the 11+ examination gives entry.

All pupils receive assistance with music tuition costs. Uniform grants, travel grants and free school meals are also available to those eligible.

595 places are available in Year 7 and a test is held early in the Autumn Term for those seeking admission the following September.

All enquiries relating to entry after the age of 11, including Sixth Form admissions, should be directed to the individual schools. Click here for a list of their contact details.

We advise you and your child to visit all the schools open to him or her before you make a decision. The dates for the Open Days at each school are available by visiting www.kingedwardthesixth.org. On that site and in the Admissions Brochure you will find details of how to apply.

PARENTS SHOULD READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND NOTE THAT ONE FORM REGISTERS THEIR CHILD FOR THE TEST AND ANOTHER MUST BE SENT TO THEIR LOCAL EDUCATION AUTHORITY (WHICH MAY BE BIRMINGHAM OR ANOTHER LEA).
