Our Schools

King Edward VI High School for Girls was founded in 1883 and moved to new buildings on its present site in Edgbaston, adjacent to King Edward's School (for Boys) in 1940. The school is set in impressive grounds and has excellent facilities. It has recently undergone a multi- million pound building programme enhancing even further its modern, up to date facilities.

The school has an outstanding academic reputation and has consistently been ranked top of the national league tables for both A level and GCSE which has resulted in the school receiving such recent accolades as “Independent School of the Year” from the Sunday Times newspaper.

There are places for approximately 550 girls with entrance exams taking place in late January. The school places great emphasis on developing independent learning and fostering creativity. Girls are offered a wide range of exciting and diverse extra-curricular opportunities. An education at King Edwards High School for Girls ensures that students are fully equipped for a fulfilling life in the 21st Century.

There are very generous student/teacher ratios, particularly in the 6th form where over 60% of students take A level sciences. Students all go on to internationally prestigious universities with a significant proportion taking up Oxbridge places.

Application forms are typically available from July for return by late January before admission examinations at the end of January. Open evenings/days are held in early July, late September and mid-January. Termly fees are £2,665 (2006/07).
